Nainital’s High Court Colony, which is fighting a forest fire in Uttarakhand, is in danger. Authorities have prohibited sailing and implemented tight restrictions. Tension still remains in the area amid efforts to control the crisis.

A wildfire has erupted in Uttarakhand, assuming a menacing form. This fire has reached the prestigious High Court Colony in Nainital, posing a danger to the residents there. To tackle this wildfire, the Nainital administration has initiated an extensive campaign with the assistance of forest department personnel and army soldiers to gain control over the fire. If the situation worsens, helicopters may also be included in the firefighting campaign to provide support in extinguishing the fire.

Troubles Caused by the Fire

A wildfire started near the district headquarters of Nainital. It posed a direct threat to the High Court Colony in the Pine Region. In addition to threatening homes, the fire caused traffic disruptions in the surrounding areas, leading to concerns about its potential spread.

The potential for the fire to reach nearby sensitive military establishments is worrisome as it complicates the efforts of the firefighting teams. Hence, as a safety measure, the administration has banned boating activities at Naini Lake.

Administrative Response

To combat the fire, the Nainital administration has formed a team of 42 team members, including 40 from the Manora Range and two forest rangers. This team has been deployed to extinguish the fire and reduce harm to the impacted areas.

Increase in Incidents of Wildfires in the State

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand Forest Department has recorded alarming figures in the last 24 hours. According to the department, 26 wildfires have occurred in the Kumaon region and 5 in the Garhwal region, resulting in the destruction of approximately 33.34 hectares of forest land.

Since November 1st of last year, the state has witnessed 575 wildfires, resulting in the destruction of 689.89 hectares of forest land and economic losses exceeding 14 lakh rupees.

Government Vigilance

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed stringent monitoring and proactive measures to contain the fire, in response to the wildfire situation. The state government is actively working to reduce the impact on people and property from wildfires. At present, ongoing efforts are in place to control the fire, and the entire region is optimistic for a swift resolution to this disaster.

Summer Weather and the Issue of Wildfires

In Uttarakhand, wildfires are a common problem during the summer season. Due to dry weather and high temperatures, these fires often become extremely dangerous. The rough and uneven landscape and dense forests of the state make it particularly vulnerable to wildfires. Therefore, the administration should remain watchful at all times and promptly implement measures to minimize the impact on communities and the environment.
